Cold wallet, hot wallet, and the forgotten exchange address
A simple three-bucket labeling scheme that survives most cross-chain portfolio reviews.
Diversified investors often invent clever names for every address. Clever names age poorly. In reviews we return to three buckets that still work when a fourth chain appears.
Cold
Addresses you intend to touch rarely. Hardware-backed, offline backups, no day-trading. These should dominate long-term holdings if that is your stated preference.
Hot
Browser or mobile wallets used for fees, bridging, and active management. Expect dust and temporary bridge remnants here.
Exchange withdrawal
Addresses you control for off-ramps. They are easy to forget after KYC is done — and easy to omit from a desktop view until an audit asks for them.
